The SET

The Set is not real, but she can become so with enough belief and enough love. She came to me on Instagram over the course of a few days in 2022. I was certain that based on the reaction to the posts that her arrival was imminent, and checked Dispel's site regularly, awaiting her arrival. Alas, it was not to be. I saved images and kept up hope, checking every once in a while to see if she made another appearance.

Then, a change in the winds. I decided to check the new Dispel Discord to see if there was a channel for requesting that dice sets be made, and was directed to the cutting room floor. A breakthrough! Sarah said to check back after GenCon, and I literally set a calendar appointment for two weeks after so that I would not forget.

I returned once Dispel had a chance to rest, and I sent photos and asked if she could return. The response was positive. Karen remembered her. With persistence and the drive of a person deciding to found a new cult, I brought more to my pursuit of The Set, as she had been dubbed by this point by the Discord, mostly so that we could list her in the Dice Desires spreadsheet.

And then -- a triumph and a setback in one. Movement on The Set being considered for production, but Karen wanted to know if we wanted a different ink color. Panic. Terror. The idea that the most perfect of sets could be altered in any way? Opinions were shared, different ink colors proposed, before I realized what was being discussed. But thankfully, most of us agreed that The Set should remain unaltered, and we await her arrival. Patiently. Mostly.
